The EU AI Act requires technical documentation — but not just any. It must be current, traceable, and auditable.

Three principles

  1. In the repository, not the wiki. Documentation belongs with the code and goes through the same review process.
  2. Enforce structure. A fixed schema (purpose, data, risks, tests) prevents gaps.
  3. Check currency. A CI check fails when the model or data changes but the docs do not.

Minimal structure

  risk-assessment.md
  test-evidence.md

Conclusion

Documentation as code is not a bureaucratic add-on, but a by-product of good engineering practice.
